Prin. Dr. H.N. Jagtap retires

An eminent educationist, reputed scholar, renowned author, academic titan, and versatile personality, Principal Dr. H.N. Jagtap retires today! A man born in a small village travelled in his long academic journey, without taking any rest, and reached a great height of excellence in the Faculty of Education. Adorning various important positions in the University like Dean, Member of Management Council, Member of Academic Council, Member on Selection Committees for Principals and Lecturers, Chairman and Member of innumerable Local Inquiry Committees and leaving a memorable, indelible imprint of his work leaves his post of Principal in D.P.B. Dayanand College of Education after office hours on 30th of April 2010. He made his earnest endeavour for significant and valuable contribution to the field of Education. Visiting more than 100 Educational Institutions all over India, spreading his research acumen all over Maharashtra, guiding successfully numerous Ph.D. and M.Phil. students and acting as referee for more than 100 Ph.D. theses is a commendable and exceptionally huge task accomplished on his part. He worked incessantly in authoring about 10 popular and best selling books, disseminated knowledge through his scores of research papers in Journals of acknowledged repute. He actively participated in Seminars and Conferences and took part in thought provoking discussions and impressed the audience by his depth of knowledge. He visited four hundred educational institutions in connection with academic work and research. Atheist by thought, but throughout his career he really worshipped, more solemnly and effectively than any other academician or believer in God, the Goddess of Education Saraswati, ‘Work is worship’ being his motto. He had courage to challenge in writing the propriety of action taken by the person of the stature of Vice-Chancellor. He is always clear in his thought, never surrenders on the point of principle but always ready to find a practical solution or golden mean in case of impasse. He is a voracious reader and inquisitive in nature. Unlike other persons on the verge of old age, he has desire and capability to learn any new thing pertaining to his job, may it be car-driving, computer basics or concerned legal provisions. Bereft of ego, ready to extend his helping hand to needy, having subdued emotions, he is a unique blend of personality. Having inborn strong dislike for corrupt people, he forms his opinions relating to politics or any other matter after study and experience. A refined orator, harbouring a subtle sense of humour, he is always ready to respect and acknowledge other’s point of view. He does not hesitate in challenging the hegemony of person in authority. Genius by nature, he continued to believe that life is beautiful and worth enjoying. With contentment and satisfaction, he puts a final full stop to his service in DAV Institutions!
